Michael Jackson: The King of Pop 1958-2009 Review'Michael Jackson: The King of Pop 1958 - 2009' is a fairly average coffee-table book on Michael. Like many of the tribute books that flooded the market following Michael's untimely passing, this book doesn't do him the proper justice he so overwhelmingly deserves. Very few tribute books properly canvass his incredible life in its entirety - from his music, entertainment achievements, tireless humanitarian and charity work and role as a father - in a respectful and dignified way. This one tends to stick the the usual facts about his achievements as an entertainer, chronicling his successes album-by-album before ending the book with a section on the world's reaction after June 25th 2009. Unfortunately this book slips into old, tiresome territory in parts, playing up the so-called "eccentric" aspects of Michael (which, for anyone in the know, were the figment of the media's imagination). On one page the author actually goes as far as to say that Michael's life could be broken into three stages - precocious young talent, worldwide superstar and then 'Wacko Jacko'. Any tribute book which includes a moniker which Michael himself found tremendously hurtful is an indication that the book draws more from the tabloid media history of Michael, rather than the real one. This book will not provide true fans with any new information or photographs. It appears to be targeted towards those with a casual interest in Michael who are after a very basic, generic overview of his life. It does not differentiate itself from the hundreds of other similar works that are currently available for purchase. A disappointing book.Michael Jackson: The King of Pop 1958-2009 Overview"I'll always be Peter Pan in my heart," Michael Jackson once said. And like the character he loved so much, Jackson seemed eternally childlike and charismatic, which made his recent death so shocking to his legions of devastated fans. This lavish illustrated biography pays tribute to the superstar, who had been rehearsing for a record-breaking sellout season of shows at London's O2 Arena at the time of his death. Filled with performance, backstage, and family photos-many never before published-Michael Jackson captures why he was the world's most popular entertainer and the true King of Pop.
